Founded in March 2003, SafeCleanGreen (SCG) is a group of several hundred residents—renters, owners, and merchants—of the Dolores Park/Mission Dolores neighborhood, brought together in common concern about serious safety and health issues in our community, and the desire to improve the quality of life for all residents.
- We address issues of crime and public safety through cooperative relationships with city departments and our Court Watch program, which ensures that Judge and District Attorney know that we care about the outcome of any court case involving an offender arrested in our neighborhood. We take so-called “nuisance” or “quality of life” crimes seriously.
- We address issues of vagrancy, public drunkeness and drug use in Dolores Park and our other public spaces, and encourage those responsible for such behavior to accept the many resources available to help them build a better life.
- We care about neighborhood cleanliness, and are particularly concerned about graffiti vandalism, illegal refuse and furniture dumping, good stewardship and wholesome use of Dolores Park, and the appearance of our five neighborhood schools.
- Our efforts go towards programs and projects—large and small—that make our neighborhood a safe and healthy place for the 2200 children who go to school here and all the rest of us who live in and enjoy this beautiful, sunny, and most historic of San Francisco neighborhoods.
- We work to hold city agencies accountable when they fail to do their job in maintaining our civic assets (and praise them when they do), and let property and business owners know when their properties pose a public nuisance.
- If you live in the area and share our concern for qualify of life, individual and government accountability, and most importantly, if you love the Mission Dolores neighborhood as we do, we encourage you to become a member.
- We’re particularly interested in members willing to contribute at least an hour or two each month to help with various projects. (See What We Do). But even if you only read SCG posts periodically and can contribute $25 to the cause, you’re making a positive impact. Politicians look at numbers, and the larger the voice with which we speak, the more we can hope to accomplish.
- We have no regular general membership meetings; all efforts are coordinated through a small Steering Committee of active members. We have no membership dues but hold bi-annual fundraisers and gratefully accept donations in any amount.
- Thanks, and see you on-line or around the neighbhorhood!
