What we do: A Case History

Mission High School: Once neglected and abused…

Just 3 years ago, this is how the grounds around Mission High School appeared: Hundreds of linear feet of planter beds and sidewalk on the 18th St. and Dolores St. sides of the landmark school were abused and neglected: weeds, trash, broken glass, IV needles, human and dog feces, dead plants, and homeless encampments abounded; an intolerable situation which SafeCleanGreen addressed.

…but a very different picture today.

As the photos below vividly demonstrate, SafeCleanGreen members, donating many hours of labor and hundreds of dollars for plants and equipment—and working with Mission High students—completely transformed the grounds around the school. We continue maintaining the grounds to ensure that this important neighborhood landmark never deteriorates as it did before. More importantly, we are working with Mission High to develop a for-credit program that gets students directly involved in keeping their school looking good. In these times of shrinking budgets, it’s great for the school, for the community, and for the students. If you’re interested in working with kids, mentoring, gardening, seeing things grow and have a little time to help, please let us know.
